THE WORK

Hasset played a critical role in uncovering key insights in the public health industry.

From August - December of 2019, Hasset served as a research and analysis associate on the DHS (Demographic Health Survey) Evidence Synthesis Team at Addis Continental Institute of Public Health. She conducted trend analyses of full immunization, measles, and contraceptive prevalence rate (CPR) coverage in Ethiopia based on the national and regional data of these three public health indicators from 2000-2019. Hasset calculated projections of coverage in Ethiopia for 2025 based on the current data and assisted in conducting equity analyses, looking at coverage between rural and urban areas and the inequality gaps among the population with lower and higher access to education.

THE RESULT

A work with national significance

Hasset created a comprehensive report of her team's work, detailing their analyses and recommendations. Their work was presented at the National Annual Review Meeting, which is an annual national health sector conference hosted by the Federal Ministry of Health (FMOH). Their work was discussed on a national policy level, and FMOH is considering their recommendations and projections for the new Health Sector Transformation Plan for Ethiopia.

THE PERK

An authentic and "valuable experience" she can use in her career

“I wanted to work in Ethiopia, but I didn't know where to start and where I’d end up. I reached out to Dr. Tadesse Wuhib, who’s an advisor of Jegna. He introduced me to Addis Continental Institute of Public Health. They welcomed me with open arms and loved the work we did, and they were open-minded. I really had a great experience. It was a valuable experience in my career.”
